]]>Gaia Technologies has been listed in the top 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain, a landmark report that identifies the UK’s most exciting small and medium sized businesses (SMEs).
With more than 4.5 million SMEs across Britain, the London Stock Exchange (London Stock Exchange), in partnership with the Daily Telegraph, identified 1000 of the country’s most inspiring businesses. Read the LSE’s full report here.
The aim of the report is to recognise and celebrate of some of the UK’s fastest-growing and most dynamic small and medium-sized enterprises, the lifeblood of the economy.
Based in Bangor, North Wales, with a clientele of schools and academies across the UK, Gaia Technologies, established in 1992 by three graduates from Bangor University, is a market leader specialising in providing managed ICT services, and 3D content development, in the highly competitive education sector.
This recognition is even more significant for the Bangor-based business, as it is 1 of only 16 companies across Wales labelled as ‘inspirational’, and the only ICT technology company in the country to feature on the list.
Anas Mawla, Managing Director of Gaia Technologies, commented, “I’m exceptionally delighted to have been chosen by the London Stock Exchange as one of the top 1000 inspirational companies in the UK.
This is a real testament to Gaia’s continued growth and success, which is all down to our focus on giving customers market-leading products and services, and always striving to deliver the best in class in everything we do.
The demand for our Managed Service products is phenomenal, and our development of world-class 3D content really makes Gaia stand out from the crowd, a winning formula which will see us continue to go from strength to strength.
I’m delighted to say that none of our main competitors have been listed, and exceptionally proud to note that we are the only ICT technology company in Wales, as well as one of only 16 Welsh businesses, featured on the list.”

]]>Academy Transformation Trust appoints Gaia Technologies to bring its ICT vision to life with inspiring 3D learning environments.
Academy Transformation Trust has recently announced the appointment of Gaia Technologies Plc as its preferred provider of ICT services to each of The Trust’s academies.
Following a competitive procurement process, Gaia Technologies were proven to have the necessary expertise needed to roll the ICT offering across Academy Transformation Trust’s network.
“ICT innovation is one of our key areas and we were impressed with Gaia’s proposal, not only as it met all the requirements in our initial brief but also because it fitted into our existing values that form the basis of everything we do,” explained Joyce Hodgetts, Managing Director of Academy Transformation Trust.
“It was important that we not only found a partner that could deliver the ICT provisions needed but who could share our vision to develop exciting and innovative ICT services to inspire teaching and learning and drive educational transformation.”
The partnership with Gaia will see the technology team servicing a high speed internet service that will help to provide consistent access to learning resources to all pupils and staff across The Trust. Gaia is also providing access to immersive 3D technologies across the Trust. This unique learning environment displays 3D images and environments such as our planet’s rainforests and the trenches of World War One. Children are able to take a tour of the solar system and can stop to explore individual planets by rotating objects 360 degrees, selecting cross sections and view the orbits, encouraging a lively debate in the classroom.
Along with the use of 3D active glasses, the projections will bring classroom learning to life in an exciting, interactive way which inspires and motivates pupils. This state-of-the-art innovation is considered to encourage a greater retention rate when compared to traditional textbook based learning techniques.
“We are thrilled to be working with Academy Transformation Trust and helping to fulfil their technological needs. Gaia has made a commitment to Academy Transformation Trust to provide ICT support that helps to enrich the learning environment of The Trust’s pupils and staff,” said Dr. Ayad Mawla, Director of Gaia Technologies.
“The growing network of academies under The Trust’s umbrella will each benefit from Gaia’s ICT expertise and staff will be empowered to use the resources available to them, which in turn will provide a safe and nurturing environment for pupils to learn new and exciting things.”

]]>Blackburn Rovers Community Trust is now proud to be offering 3D technology experiences to schools, community groups and other partner organisations, allowing them the opportunity to experience the ‘next big thing’ in education. Blackburn Rovers Community Trust is the first Football Community Trust in the UK to work with Gaia Technologies plc to embrace and develop the use and power of 3D technology in their teaching.
Blackburn Rovers Community Trust (www.brfctrust.co.uk/community) is very much at the heart of embracing and recognising the use of ICT as a powerful learning tool. In championing the latest technologies, the Trust has seen students become motivated, engaged and ultimately achieve success.
The introduction of 3D in curriculum delivery across a range of subjects makes an already unique learning environment stand out even further from the competition. This new technology includes an interactive 3D heart rate monitor, which allows students to witness a 3D representation of their own heart beating in time to their pulse.
Chris Dawes, Head of Business Operations says,
“The Gaia 3D software has made a significant impact when used with our students, as their comprehension of sport and fitness-related topics in particular has improved immensely. Learning in this way has proven to develop and increase confidence, and students are engaged to the point where they are queuing up to try out the equipment.”
The 3D experience allows students to enhance and apply their understanding of complex issues by learning through observation and investigation, rather than via the traditional routes of instruction. This unique method of pedagogy allows environments and models to be observed in full 3D from every angle. This fully interactive learning tool engages students through a variety of learning styles, guaranteeing a greater level of participation and comprehension. What takes the Trust’s use of 3D learning solutions to a whole new level is the ability to make it possible for students to develop and produce 3D content themselves, using freely available software such as Google Sketchup and Autodesk 123D Catch.
The Trust’s use of 3D technology has been beneficial to teaching and learning across a range of subject areas and has created a fun and stimulating learning experience by immersing students in environments like never before possible. The ‘wow factor’ is often witnessed in Trust-delivered sessions when students are presented with the 3D learning environment.
As acknowledgement of its excellence in ICT provision, the Trust has become an Acer Education Centre. As part of an Acer project for education, in collaboration with European Schoolnet (EUN) (www.eun.org), Blackburn Rovers Community Trust has had the pleasure of receiving a class set of Acer tablets for use across the Education Centre. The goal of this project is to support teaching organisations and schools to move into the 21st Century by providing the opportunity to develop new teaching and learning methods through the use of technology.
“These tablets really do make a difference to developmental areas such as independent learning, increased motivation and levels of participation. Using the tablets and combining them with other software and hardware solutions such as Gaia’s 3D Viewer, we have been able to transform Ewood Park into an interactive learning hub, giving students and teachers alike countless opportunities to participate in interactive Maths, English, Science and History trails to name just a few activities on offer.” added Mr. Dawes.

]]>Ridgeway school is one of the UK schools that has recently been involved in a pilot project of Gaia 3D.
Specialising in Science and Maths, the school’s work to support children at every stage of their educational journey has been described as outstanding by Ofsted.
Working alongside the Gaia Team, Jim Strachan the Assistant Head of Geography, was able to implement the software in the school and teach the school’s first lesson in 3D. Lucky Year 9 students were the first to witness learning being brought to life.
As published in the local newspaper Plympton, Plymstock and Ivybridge News:
“RIDGEWAY students take a step into the future of education as geography gets a 3D makeover!”
“After donning the 3D glasses, the class were taught plate tectonics by Mr Strachan, but instead of old-fashioned 2D diagrams, the students were immersed in virtual representations of earthquakes and volcanoes while being taught what happens at destructive plate boundaries and how to make a building earthquake-proof.”
In the words of the students, being able to manipulate and interact with the planet’s structure “made the subject come to life and jump off the board…literally”.
Mr Strachan said: “Gaia 3D is at the cutting edge of Education so it was a huge honour to have them visit our school.”
“It was a fantastic experience and we can’t wait until we can use it every day!”

More than 100,000 people perished in London alone — about 20% of the population — in the devastating Bubonic Plague that had recurred throughout Europe since the Black Death of 1347.
In Gaia’s Great Plague environment, teachers and students are able to navigate through the streets of 17th-Century London, viewing the poor sanitation and cramped living conditions that contributed to the pandemic spread, and interact within an apothecary whose herbs were once used to treat the Plague’s victims.

Computer generated animation has been in development for some time with early work dating back to the 1960s. Not surprisingly, the first commercial use of three-dimensional (3D) animations was a representation of a human, known as the “Boeing Man.” It was not until the 1990s that 3D within the general entertainment industry became more widespread.... Written by Professor Dr Anne Bamford, Director of the International Research Agency.
]]>Known as the “Learning in Future Education” or “LiFE” project, a team of researchers led by Professor Dr Anne Bamford, Director of the International Research Agency and Director of Education undertook a detailed research investigation of the impact of 3D on pupils’ learning. The goal of the LiFE 1 project was to determine the most effective type of 3D experiences and to measure the value and impact of these experiences on pupil learning and achievement.
]]>Studies have shown that the educational benefits of presenting teaching materials in 3D are promising, generating a significant improvement in comprehension and retention over the more traditional non-3D style of presentation.
]]>Nothing captures the attention of students like 3D!!! As we all have seen over the past couple of years, 3D technology is becoming a bigger part of the entertainment experience, whether it’s at the movie theater, in the home, or in gaming environments. However, the benefits of 3D extend much further than providing entertainment value.
